Occuhealth's Director, Dr Julia Norris, has become our Oil and Gas UK Medical certified doctor! After a recent trip to Scotland, Dr Norris undertook the industry specific course and joined the short list of Australian Doctors that can perform this medical.
Offshore workers need to pass a specialised Medical Examination to be eligible to work in the offshore oil and gas industry, and this can only be done by an accredited doctor.
Offshore worksites may be located in remote and potentially hostile environments, which may be isolated from qualified medical assistance. Workplace safety is a top priority. OGUK Medicals examinations are designed to ensure employees are fit and ready to work in these environments with employee’s being assessed on both their physical and mental health.
The Medical is valid for two years and allows an employee to work in the UK sector or the North Sea. The Medical includes, but not limited to, the following:
- Patient Health History Questionnaire
- Mental assessment
- BMI – measurement of height, weight and calculation of Body Mass Index
- Vision test
- Pulse and Blood Pressure Measurement
- Spirometry (Lung Function Test)
- Audiogram (Hearing Test)
- Consultation with an OGUK accredited doctor
- Routine vaccine review.
- Drug and alcohol urine test
Only an accredited Doctor is authorised to conduct Oil and Gas UK Medicals. At Occuhealth, our accredited Doctor is available to perform medicals at both of our Belmont and Mandurah locations.
