Fitness to drive medical changes

Assessing Fitness to Drive is a joint publication of Austroads and the National transport Commission (NTC). It contains nationally agreed medical standards for the purposes of driver licensing.

Following a two year Australian wide review, the revised guidelines are now in place. Major changes made to the guidelines include:

  • Cardiovascular risk
  • Diabetes risk and treatment
  • Neurological conditions (Epilepsy and Seizures, stroke and intellectual disability)
  • Vision and eye disorders
  • Audiometry
