Audiometric Testing

Audiometric, hearing, medical, hearing test, noise, fit test

According to the Work Cover WA regulations, Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 1994; It is compulsory for employers to arrange baseline hearing tests in prescribed workplaces, even if wearing hearing protection. All workers employed in a prescribed workplace for the first time must have a baseline hearing test within twelve months of commencing employment.

A prescribed workplace is where noise exceeds 90dB(A) at any time. The exposure to noise can be monitored through regular audiometric tests and all hearing protection should be regularly verified with earplug fit testing. Early intervention will prevent an irreversible long term hearing loss that is actually 100% preventable if these regulations are appropriately followed.

Besides musculoskeletal disease, hearing loss is the second most common health condition experienced by Australians. It is more common than asthma, heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Australians are at greater risk of hearing loss than ever before because of their lifestyle choices. (HEARnet.com.au)
